10 Things You Didn’t Know About Paul Taylor

What do you know about Bassam Tabarra, the CEO of Upbound? If you’re wondering what the company is all about, think of them as an open-source cloud storage company that takes things to the next level. Tabarra is the company’s brainchild, leading many to want to learn more about him. Here are 10 things about him that you might find rather interesting.

1. He tends to think about things differently

Tabarra doesn’t think about things the same way as many other people do. For him, it’s always about thinking outside the box and using his skills to create new opportunities. According to him, he’s always spent a great deal of time planning new and innovative ways to think about common, everyday things. He has commented in the past that everyone has the capability to do this, but not everyone actually employs that ability to the fullest.

2. He enjoys being challenged

He’s also mentioned that he thoroughly enjoys having the opportunity to meet challenges that most people might have a tendency to shy away from. As a matter of fact, he claims to relish these challenges because it forces him to think of a solution that he might not have otherwise realized.

3. He can’t stand the idea of doing the same thing over and over again

He also says that one of the things that he genuinely can’t stand is the thought of having a routine where every day is much like the day before it and the one before that. Instead, he far prefers to challenge himself to do something that’s completely different in one way or another every day so that he is constantly challenged to go above and beyond the things that he’s done in the past.

4. He loves to empower others to succeed

He genuinely loves empowering others to succeed. Having experienced a great deal of success himself, he knows what it feels like to have that level of success and he enjoys having the ability to help others achieve the same feeling.

5. He loves the geography of the northwest United States

More specifically, he loves the landscape in and around Seattle, Washington, where the company he heads up is based. He has commented in the past that it is possible for some people to connect better with certain geographic areas than others. For him, the place that he connects with the most is this particular area in and around Seattle. In addition to the general landscape, there is more than enough activity to keep people busy, whether they enjoy being indoors or 0utdoors. Not only does he love the way that the area looks, but also the versatility that it offers.

6. He understands science better than most

Before he began his current position, he was also the Chief Technology Officer for Quantum Corporation, a company that deals in quantum theory and physics that feels more akin to an episode of “Star Trek” than anything most people would consider possible in real life. He has a love for science and a genuine understanding of it, one that most people can only dream of.

7. He started his tech career at software powerhouse Microsoft

It’s interesting to note that he began his career working for Microsoft all the way back in 1995. Prior to his current position, he has been involved with a couple of other companies, namely Microsoft and the aforementioned Quantum Corporation. That said, he started working for Microsoft in the mid-90s and continued working for them right up until he started his career at Quantum Corporation. He then worked there steadily until he began his current position.

8. He used to do product research at Microsoft

He wasn’t at Microsoft for long before they put him in charge of product research. It’s relatively safe to say that he made a rather significant impression on the people at Microsoft almost immediately. As a matter of fact, he went from working in a relatively mundane department to virtually heading up their research and development section in a relatively short amount of time. From that point forward, he was basically in charge of researching some of their more dynamic projects. The people at Microsoft quickly learned that if they wanted to achieve something that was especially challenging, he was the person for the job, as he could typically get things done where other people would come up short.

9. He’s largely responsible for developing Windows software as it is today

It’s almost impossible to imagine what the world would look like without Windows and other types of programs just like it. These stopped becoming mere software programs a long time ago and effectively became something that is synonymous with everyday life. People use these products in such a way that it would be almost impossible to function in daily life as most people know it without these products. It’s interesting to note that he’s largely responsible for developing the Windows software. If it hadn’t been for his efforts, who knows if the program would exist in the same capacity that it does today or not.

10. He knows how to make the most out of existing technology

There’s no doubt about it, he definitely knows how to make the most out of existing technology. Clearly, he also knows how to take that technology and enhance it so that it becomes something that is superior to anything you’ve ever seen before. Many are quick to point out that he’s even capable of taking existing technology and then turning it into something that is completely unique. There aren’t a lot of people that can do this type of thing with any true level of consistency. When someone comes along that is capable of doing exactly that, it’s definitely worth paying attention, because it is typically those individuals that are on the cusp of doing something great.
